We filmed a Podcast with Vanessa Williams

There are some filming days that stay with you long after the cameras have been packed away. Recording a podcast with Vanessa Williams was one of those days a brilliant opportunity to create something warm, natural and professional for a true Hollywood star.

Vanessa Williams is an award-winning American actress, singer and performer whose career spans music, film, television and theatre. She is known for her successful recording career, Broadway performances and roles in productions including Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives. She also became the first Black woman to be crowned Miss America and has received nominations across the Grammy, Emmy and Tony Awards

Creating the Right Environment

For this project, Raf and I wanted to make sure Vanessa felt completely comfortable from the moment she arrived. Although the production needed to look polished and high-end, we did not want the environment to feel overly formal, staged or intimidating.

We chose to film in the corner of a house rather than building a traditional studio set. That decision helped the conversation feel more natural and friendly, almost as though the audience had been invited into the room with us. The space gave Vanessa a relaxed background, while the corner itself created depth and separation that worked well visually.

A podcast should feel like a conversation, not an interrogation. By using a familiar, welcoming environment, we were able to create the kind of atmosphere where genuine stories, humour and personality could come through naturally.

To capture the conversation properly, we used a three-point camera setup. This gave us enough coverage to keep the edit dynamic while ensuring that every important moment could be presented clearly.

The first camera provided the main two-shot, showing Vanessa and the interviewer together and establishing the relationship between them. The second camera was positioned for a dedicated angle on Vanessa, allowing us to capture her reactions, expressions and individual answers. The third camera gave us an additional perspective, helping us cut between angles smoothly and add visual variety without interrupting the flow of the conversation.

For a podcast, this type of setup is incredibly useful. It means the edit is not restricted to one fixed viewpoint, and it gives the finished film a more professional, television-style feel. It also allows us to protect the natural rhythm of the discussion, rather than stopping the conversation to repeat answers or adjust the framing.

Professional Without Feeling Staged

The challenge with filming someone as recognisable as Vanessa Williams is finding the balance between making the production feel special and keeping the environment relaxed. Every camera position, lighting choice and background detail was considered, but the final result needed to feel effortless.

Raf and I worked together to create a setup that supported Vanessa rather than distracting from her. The equipment was carefully positioned, the framing was clean and the room was arranged to feel inviting. Our aim was to make sure that the audience focused on the conversation, the stories and the person in front of the camera.

That balance is at the heart of good podcast production. The technical work should be strong enough to elevate the content, but subtle enough that the conversation remains the centre of attention.

Every Guest Matters

Filming with Vanessa Williams was a fantastic experience, but the way we approach a podcast does not change depending on how famous the guest is. Whether we are recording a conversation with a Hollywood star, a business owner, a creative professional or someone sharing their story for the first time, we bring the same level of care to every setup.

At Another World Media, we believe every guest deserves to feel comfortable, supported and represented professionally on camera. From the environment and camera coverage to the lighting, sound and final edit, we build each production around the conversation and the people involved.

Whether you are a Hollywood star or not, every single setup is treated with the same attention to detail at Another World Media. Book us for your podcast today and let us create a professional, natural and engaging video podcast for your audience.
